DEPARTMENT OF STREETS and PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS

The Street Department, headed by Dan Kelly as Superintendent, undertakes the public works function of the City of Pottsville. Responsibilities of this department include performing maintenance of over 42 miles of streets and storm sewers, 15 separate parks and playground facilities including the JFK Pool, as well as City Hall and the City garage buildings.

Currently, the department has a fleet of 17 vehicles including a loader, backhoe loader, street sweeper, dump trucks, pickup trucks, leaf collection vacuum, bucket truck and several riding mowers.

In Spring and Fall, the Street Department conducts citywide cleanups. The Leaf Collection Program is also held each fall while the street sweeper operates on a regular schedule.

The City Garage, located at 425 East Railroad Street, is also the recycling drop-off center for the City. The direct telephone line is 622-7690.
