General tips
SCHOOL IS OPEN:
Be aware that children and School Busses are active now and stay alert. Crossing guards are authorized to direct traffic for the safety of our children, and they MUST be obeyed. Passing a school bus when its red lights are flashing is not only dangerous, but can result in large fines and suspension of your driving privileges.
DOWNTOWN INTERSECTIONS: Most downtown intersections have pedestrian WALK signals, and therefor right turns on red are generally prohibited.
TRAFFIC LIGHT SENSORS: Traffic lights at many major intersections have sensor pads that indicate the presence of vehicles waiting for the light to cycle. If you creep out past them instead of stopping on them, the light may not change for you to proceed. Stay alert for white stop lines painted on the roadway, and always stop before them.
25 MPH SPEED LIMITS: Several major streets in Pottsville have a 25 mph speed limit, including (but not limited to) Nichols, Peacock, Laurel, Mahantongo, and Woodglenn.
5 MPH SPEED LIMITS: Many other streets have a 35 mph speed limit, including Route 61 from Mauch Chunk Street to East Arch Street.

URGENT NOTICES
The intersection of Nichols St and North Centre St is now a THREE WAY stop. Westbound traffic on Nichols Street must stop at North Centre St.
Northbound Traffic on Centre St must stop at Nichols, whether turning or not.
